In order to respond to the call of "energy revolution" by President Xi Jinping, implement the 2+2 cooperation agreement on "climate smart/low-carbon city", and serve the innovation-driven development strategy of Sichuan Province, Tsinghua University, with the strong support of Sichuan Province, Chengdu City and Tianfu New Area, relying on the Department of Electrical Engineering, established SC-EIRI.

As the first cooperative scientific research institution between Tsinghua University and Sichuan Province, Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, Tsinghua University (hereinafter refered to as SC-EIRI) was established in Tianfu New Area, Sichuan Province in March 2016, with the commitment to build a talents gathering platform, sci-tech innovation center, and industrial development highland in the field of energy Internet.

Since establishment, SC-EIRI has been based in Chengdu, serving Sichuan and connecting home & abroad. It has vigorously promoted interdisciplinary integration and actively conducted industry-university-research collaborative innovation in frontier technologies and key fields such as clean and low-carbon energy, new power system, energy cross-integration and energy carbon neutrality, and has developed into a leading technical innovation R&D institution in the field of energy Internet. It has made outstanding contributions to the serving towards Southwest China by Tsinghua University and  the opening up of Tianfu New Area.

Facing the future, SC-EIRI will seize the strategic opportunities of Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, actively participate in the construction of the Western(Chengdu) Science City and Tianfu Laboratory, enhance Chengdu to build a park city demonstration area with the implementation of new development philosophy, and make greater contributions in building a new power system with new energy as the main source, promoting energy clean development, and serving the full realizing of carbon peaking &carbon neutrality.
