The Center gives full play to the cross-integration of water resources, information, control and other disciplines, builds the scientific theory and key technology system of smart watershed, gathers over 20 experts and talents such as academicians, Chang Jiang Scholars and excellent young scholars, and carries out cutting-edge research and application in the fields of intelligent construction of hydropower complex, intelligent routing inspection and intelligent control of urban rivers and lakes.
Water Engineering Safety Institute
Facing the four links of engineering safety, i.e. "inspection, diagnosis, treatment and control", the Institute focuses on contents such as the key technologies of intelligent monitoring & detection, the intelligent diagnosing method of hydraulic building operation, the defect repairing & emergency interconnecting method of hydraulic structure operation, and the intelligent control technology and platform of watershed safety, builds the core capabilities of "online perception - comprehensive diagnosis - emergency treatment - cloud control", serves the safe operation of the watershed, and "feel the pulse and inquire" for the safety of major projects.
Water Engineering Digitalization & Intelligentization Design Institute
The Institute focuses on the field of digitalization & intelligentization design of water engineering, and is committed to the researches upon aspects such as digital design key technologies, design collaborative system methods & digitalized products, engineering numerical calculation, simulation and analysis platform, and basic key technology of water engineering digital twinning. The Institute aims to promote the high-level development of water engineering digital technology in China, and continuously enhance the R&D and technology accumulation of domestic mapping industry software and CAE software through technology research and platform building.
Water Environment and Watershed Security Institute
The Institute focuses on the fields of urban river & lake water safety and water environment, be committed to establishing scientific theories and key technology system of smart watershed, provides solutions for river & lake water ecological environment improvement and smart supervision, and becomes a R&D platform integrating theoretical innovation, technology development and product production.
Intelligent Construction Institute
The Institute gathers talents from the intelligent construction team of Tsinghua University, focuses on the intelligent construction, management & operation of major national infrastructure, especially water resources & hydropower engineering and geotechnical engineering, carries out R&D of intelligent construction's research methods, innovative technology and key equipment, and provides engineering technology solutions for intelligent construction and intelligent post-construction. The research mainly includes intelligent temperature control, intelligent ventilation, intelligent vibroflotation, intelligent safety, engineering knowledge graph, etc.
Smart Hydropower Complex Research Institute
With key buildings of hydropower complex as the object, the Institute is committed to building a reservoir & dam safety intelligent detection and intelligent control system based on "inspection, detection, diagnosis and maintenance", forms a series of key technologies such as multivariate inspection data collection, data identification & judgment, risk warning and response interconnection, promotes the highly efficient transmission and coordinated integration of reservoir & dam's safety information flow, and optimizes the detection and control process of key hydraulic buildings.
Intelligent routing inspection and digital twinning technology for structural safety of high dam complex
Having built a high-precision numerical simulation method for flood release towards the challenge of flood release and energy dissipation of high arch dams in Southwest China such as Sichuan
Having developed an integrated routing inspection equipment system of "air, space, ground, and water", and independently developed a series of routing inspection robot equipment and system, so as to realize the dynamic detection and thorough perception of structural safety
Having built a visual active detection technology system of "overally rough inspection, partially detailed observation and defect precise measurement" for key facilities of high dam complex
Having overcome the intelligent damage identification and risk spatial mapping methods, established a safety control platform for hydraulic structures based on digital twinning, and carried out watershed-level engineering practice
R&D product: multi-mode underwater routing inspection robot system
Having adopted the integrated "desilting - displacement" technology design of desilting, water displacement and observation, solved the visual detection difficulties in complex environment, been included into the technology promotion by the Ministry of Water Resources, and won the gold medal of patents for invention at home and abroad

Having established the safe operation model of hydraulic structures, developed the knowledge mapping based on spatial-temporal AI, created digital twins of key structures, and realized the intelligent damage identification, risk spatial mapping, and structural safety assessment & risk control based on digital twinning

Having developed underwater detection and repairing technologies for concrete panels, and solved the difficulties of leakage detection and underwater repairing in complex environment
Having developed a safety control platform for watershed hydropower stations under operation, and built an assessment system with different types and levels, so as to conduct real-time analysis of dam's working condition
Having built HydroSafety technology system for engineering safety to serve watershed safe operation

Towards the operation and management of watershed-level dams, Having realized the intelligentization of data collection, ordering, analysis, assessment and decision, and the visualization of analysis results, built the intelligent online monitoring platform for watershed dams, and improved the operation and maintenance management level of hydraulic work
