The Center is committed to the research of energy Internet comprehensive solutions under the trend of digital transformation of new power systems. Based on the industry status quo of complex characteristics and huge size of new power systems, the Center focuses on digital intelligent solutions of power systems, forms a digital guarantee solution during the full life circle through the deep integration of modern information technology and the energy industry, and improves the intelligentization level and operational efficiency of energy networks.

Institute of Power and Energy System Digital Twin

The Institute mainly focuses on energy Internet simulation technology, and carries out research work in the fields of large-scale grid electromagnetic transient simulation, power system hardware-in-the-loop simulation, multi-energy complementary coupling simulation, and energy Internet cloud operation & maintenance, etc. The Institute provides the digital twinning solutions supporting the modeling, simulation, planning, operation & maintenance of energy Internet, through building a "digital twinning" model with real-time mapping with the actual energy system, and combining the data feedback of the ubiquitous device sensor IoT, and empowers relevant industries with strong analysis and auxiliary decision capabilities.

Equipment Digitalization and Intelligentization Technology Institute

The Institute focuses on the research of status multi-dimension holographic monitoring and breakdown intelligent diagnosing technology of key large-scale energy equipment, be committed to the development of online monitoring and intelligent diagnosing instruments for high-end power equipment, and provides professional and comprehensive power equipment detection & diagnosis services for power customers.

Energy Big Data Institute

Relying on the core technology and strength of the School of Software of Tsinghua University and the National Engineering Research Center for Big Data Software of Tsinghua University, the Institute focuses on the major needs of energy and equipment manufacturing industry in the field of data, be engaged in the transformation & application of industry-university-research technological achievements, gives play to the value of the energy/industry big data platform, promotes the quality increasing & efficiency enhancing and innovative development of the energy and equipment manufacturing industry, accelerates the deep integration of big data technology and the energy/equipment manufacturing industry, and helps enterprises reduce costs, enhance efficiency, transform and upgrade.

Digital Power Planning & Design Institute

The core members of the Institute graduate from Tsinghua University and other well-known universities at home and abroad, have working experiences in various management departments and business institutions of State Grid Corporation of China, and enjoy rich practical experiences in the fields of strategic research, planning & design, technical tackling and construction & operation, etc. The Institute focuses on relevant technologies of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality", "new power system" and digital transformation" in the power field, and is committed to promoting the upgrading of power grid to energy Internet, and providing all-round solutions for different market entities.

Core technology/products

Cloud simulation and digital twinning technology for high-performance energy systems


  • Having developed CloudPSS, a high-performance electromagnetic transient cloud simulation platform with fully independent intellectual property rights. The platform is compatible with traditional electromagnetic transient simulation software models and examples, supports a variety of advanced electromagnetic transient modeling & simulation methods, achieves a leap in computing efficiency through parallel accelerated computing methods, and completes a breakthrough in such technical products in China out of nothing.

  • Having developed an integrated energy system simulation kernel with fully independent intellectual property rights. The simulation kernel assesses operation status of the integrated energy system by using the simulation results according to the user input deterministic boundary conditions through the multi-energy flow coupling simulation calculation method, and completes scheme selection and planning & design.

  • Having been the first to create the cloud simulation platform framework and application modes of energy power system, proposed the virtualization construction and optimal dispatching method of simulation computing resources, realized safe isolation and flexible dispatching, be compatible with advanced computing hardware, provided the ultimate simulation efficiency, and formed an open, shared and flexible application ecosystem.

It's the new generation of electromagnetic transient simulation tool with the unified model supporting many functions such as power flow calculation, electromagnetic transient simulation and hardware-in-the-loop simulation calculation, and providing fine transient modeling and simulation functions for large-scale, fine-grained complex energy power systems

The platform integrates various energy subsystems such as thermal energy, electric energy and gas, realizes gradient utilization of energy, solves the simulation and optimal planning design problems of integrated energy system with various energy forms, and improves the safety, economy and environmental friendliness of the integrated energy system

The workshop is composed of SimStudio, FuncStudio and AppStudio, adopts the design concept of low code and fast application construction, has the characteristics of cross-platform and easy deployment, which can greatly reduce the development access of digital twinning applications and accelerate the development of digital twinning applications towards massive scenarios

The platform provides a full range of functional modules supports for the new power distribution system such as load prediction, power flow calculation, energy storage planning, reactive power optimization, short-circuit current calculation, reliability analysis, static safety analysis and technical & economic analysis, and also gives supports to the planning, design, operation and maintenance for main and auxiliary power systems

Online monitoring and intelligent diagnosing technology of power equipment


  • Towards the electrical insulation, mechanical vibration voiceprint and thermal field distribution of power equipment, adopts non-contact intelligent sensors to conduct real-time monitoring of equipment insulation and mechanical status, and makes comprehensive diagnosis through expert system and self-learning system

  • Towards the overvoltage and overcurrent of the main distribution network, adopts the sensor based on broadband electromagnetic coupling for real-time monitoring, and realizes the inversion of equipment breakdown process and accurate breakdown location

  • Improve equipment intelligent control ability and operation reliability, and reduce operation risks through digitization of power equipment framework and in-depth data exploration of the whole process


R&D product: WBVM-102 type GIL (cable) equipment broadband voltage online monitoring and traveling wave positioning system

Having increased the breakdown positioning accuracy of long-distance GIL and cable from hundreds of meters to 1 meter, and has been successfully applied to 1100kV Suzhou-Nantong integrated pipe gallery project and Nanyang-Wuhan UHV power transformation projects
